Microsoft Trying To Make Xbox 360 Games Available To Buy On Xbox One

December 9, 2015 by Carlos Chism

Phil Spencer says the company has heard fan requests for the feature.

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox at Microsoft has said on Twitter that Microsoft is currently working on making Xbox 360 games available for purchase on Xbox One. When a fan requested the feature, Spencer responded that the company has heard it before and is “working on a solution.”

@JimGill524 @majornelson We've heard this request and we are working on a solution.

Microsoft rolled out a major update last month, introducing backwards compatibility functionality for a large number of Xbox 360 games. The functionality lets players use Xbox One features like recording and screenshots with the last-generation games. Microsoft promised more games would be added. The ability to buy Xbox 360 games digitally and download them is not currently available.

Sony is also working on backwards compatibility, but for the PlayStation 2 rather than the PlayStation 3. The company maintains the position that PS3 emulation is too difficult to achieve on the PlayStation 4, and has instead leaned on PlayStation Now, the games streaming service, to serve as a pseudo backwards compatibility.

Earlier today, Microsoft announced another holiday price drop for each edition of the console, along with a massive, countdown to the New Year sale event. The company says that many games will be heavily discounted during the sale, and that Games with Gold members can expect to have access to the best deals.
