Descent: Underground Releases Major Content Update

November 25, 2015 by Carlos Chism

The Early Access game gets several new features and user experience improvements.

Descendent Studios, the Texas-based developer behind the title Descent: Underground, released today a major content update for the game.  The update is nicknamed “Rama,” and includes both new content and new user experience improvements. New features include a new multiplayer map called “Rama”, which blends open arena space with tight rooms and passages. “Torch” is a dueling ship added to the class roles available. Proximity mines, the Afterburner, and the return of trichording all add to the action in other ways.

Improvements to the user experience include the ability for players to create their own match lobbies and select their favorite maps and game modes, along with inviting friends to play via a short code. These lobbies can be public or private. Players can now also have a career page that shows statistics about their in-game performance. More details on all these changes can be read in the release notes.

Descent: Underground is an officially-licensed prequel to the Descent series of games. Underground combines first-person shooter gameplay with six degrees of free vehicular movement. Players inhabit the roles of pilots commanding space-combat ships battling for control of asteroid mines. The game, considered a reboot of the 1990s FPS, was successfully funded on Kickstarter. The game is currently available on Steam Early Access or at DescentUnderground.com.

Descent: Underground is expected to release during the first half of 2016 on PC, Mac, and Linux.
