Street Fighter 6 has been giving fans and media outlets a lot to chew on over the last few days. After some new trailers and hands-on time with the game, we know that Street Fighter 6 has a single-player mode called World Tour.
World Tour mode is a huge break from what you would typically expect of Street Fighter, let alone fighting games in general. It will let players use a custom avatar to explore a 3D open-world called Metro City.
Thanks to an interview with IGN Japan (and translated by VGC), we now know that the World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6 will have multiple open areas beyond just Metro City.
In the interview, producer Shuhei Matsumoto said, “The first stage of the world tour is in Metro City.” When IGN Japan asked for clarification on this point, he responded by saying, “Well, it’s the WORLD Tour.” He could not reveal any more information beyond this except that he is working on something that will let players “travel the world and experience how it feels to be strong.”
Going to different countries has been a part of Street Fighter for a very long time. In the arcade modes of various games in the series, players would travel to different countries to fight characters who were from those locations. The footage shown of Street Fighter 6 thus far has depicted three stages. One in Metro City, another on an airship carrier, and a third which seems to be a Japanese-themed stage full of Sakura trees.
If the World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6 takes players to different open-world areas that represent the countries of each character or stage in the game, we could be in for a massive adventure.
