While the engineers at Sony PlayStation have been hard at work trying to make it possible, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Shuhei Yoshida is not sure if changing your PlayStation Network handle will ever be possible.
Answering a question in a Twitter video from PlayStation France as to when PSN name changes might come to the service, Shuhei responded, “When? I wish I knew. We are aware that lots of people are asking for the feature. Our engineers have been looking into what they can do. As soon as we know, we'll let you know. But as of today, we don't even know if we can ever do it. Hopefully we will be able to provide that feature in the future."

Being able to change your online handle has been available on Xbox Live for years, even offering a first name-change free of charge.
Earlier this week, before the PlayStation media briefing at Paris Games Week, Sony sent out a survey to a select group of PlayStation 4 owners, asking what they thought were important features for the PlayStation team to focus on in the next firmware update for the console. The options included being notified when a friend comes online, PS1 & PS2 classics being playable on PS4, being able to appear offline, and being able to change one’s PSN ID.
