So far, we’ve had three comic book movies come out this year, each with different feelings about what it was, what it wasn’t, and so on. The first film was The Batman, which many praised, but also pointed out its length and certain other elements as reason why it wasn’t as grand as say The Dark Knight. Then there was Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness. Which many were eager to see, and it pleased many, but not all due to confusing story elements. And then…there was Morbius.
This was the latest film from Sony’s side of the superhero universe, and it’s also the film that was delayed so many times that people wondered if it could POSSIBLY be good even on a “it’s so bad it’s good” scale like what happened with Venom. The answer? No, it was just bad. Critics lambasted it, and while fans of hero movies gave it a shot and allowed it to get $40 million its first weekend at the box office…the next weekend? It got around $10 million. That’s one of the biggest box office drops ever.
So why are we bringing up Morbius then if it’s so bad? Well, following a tradition as of late, you can now watch the first 10 minutes of the film right now via the video above. While it doesn’t show everything that makes it bad, it does give you a teaser as to how the film came to get such hate.
The irony of course is that despite the massive failure of the film, Sony is still intending to go forward with its universe of films set in the Spider-Man character side of things. Including making a Kraven the Hunter movie, Madame Web film, and of course, the third Venom movie.
As long as they’re better than this film? It may be worth it.
