It seems like everyone is celebrating their financial results, with companies such as Nintendo revealing their numbers for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022. Bandai Namco has also followed suit, announcing that the recently released Elden Ring by From Software has surpassed 13.4 Million units sold worldwide.
Elden Ring launched on February 25, 2022, and has already established itself as the best-selling game of the year so far. It launched in the same month as two massive triple-A games, Horizon: Forbidden West and Dying Light 2. However, it seems like Elden Ring has managed to come out on top.
On March 14, Bandai Namco officially declared that Elden Ring had sold 12 million units in its first two weeks on sale, meaning that the game has managed to sell an extra 1.4 million units in the two-week period that followed. For comparison, Dark Souls III managed to ship 3 million copies in its first three weeks on sale in 2016 and was able to surpass 10 million units in late 2020. This means that Elden Ring outsold Dark Souls III in its first month, which is no surprise considering the critical acclaim it has received.
Furthermore, Activision, the publisher of another From Software title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, announced that the punishing feudal Japan game sold over 5 million copies by July 2020. Despite the game’s differences from other entries in the “Souls” series, Sekiro still retains the challenging gameplay loop that makes From Software’s games so beloved.
