New Guns And Magic ARPG Dark Envoy Coming Later This Year

May 4, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

A new weapons and magic-based RPG will be coming to PC and consoles later in the year. Publisher Asmodee Digital and developer Event Horizon will be launching Dark Envoy at some point in 2022, it has been announced today. The game is described as a “Guns ‘N Sorcery RPG”, which will be playable in single-player mode or in online co-op for up to 2 players.

The game was first announced back in 2019 and a gameplay teaser trailer was shown in April 2021, but it seems that a year later and the game has finally been given a release window. It seems that it will be actually launched at some point this year, in news that those waiting for an update are sure to be glad about.

Dark Envoy will feature tactical real-time combat and online co-op in an adventure that sees players taking on the roles of two children of war refugees. The game can be completed alone or in co-op mode and makes use of a rich, non-linear storyline.

In an official press release, Nicolas Godement, Head of Operations at Asmodee Digital expressed his excitement at teaming up with Event Horizon to publish Dark Envoy.

We are delighted to partner today with the gifted Event Horizon team to publish Dark Envoy, an innovative tactical RPG. As we are expanding our editorial scope towards new genres and new audiences, Dark Envoy fits perfectly with our desire to offer players increasingly varied and immersive gaming experiences. We look forward to allowing players to discover the unique world of Dark Envoy and are excited to support Event Horizon throughout this journey.

It seems that the wait for a release window may have come down to the developer’s desire to find the right publishers to work with. Event Horizon’s CEO Krzysztof Monkiewicz gave some insight into this with his own statement on today’s update. “For Dark Envoy, we were looking for a publisher that shares our utmost respect for the gaming community and is willing to experiment with gameplay mechanics and look for ways to refresh the RPG genre,” he explains.

Monkiewicz continued to elaborate on why the partnership is the right fit for Dark Envoy, explaining that “Asmodee Digital is focused on delivering high-quality entertainment, and that fits perfectly with our mission to make our games a unique experience for all players.”
