So as we’ve already noted here on the site, the Warner Bros merger with Discovery is causing a lot of changes, and is equally causing a LOT of rumors and stories to be born about what might happen next in terms of the “state of things”. One such rumor is that the DCEU might be getting not just an overhaul to stabilize things (given how Warner Bros was not exactly doing their best over the last year or so) and even have a “Kevin Feige-like Individual Running The Show”. But another report has come out, and this time it’s about Batgirl.
According to a new “line of thinking”, one of the heads of the reformed company (who also happened to be there at Warner Bros before the merger) is pushing for Batgirl to not just release on HBO Max, but in theaters as well.
If you recall, there was a movement started by Warner Bros to try and get not only their DC Comics properties onto the big screen but have exclusive ones on HBO Max to help push the streaming service. Something that has been doing well over the last few years due to major premieres like Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Batman.
Batgirl coming to theaters though might be good for various reasons, not the least of which is because this would be yet another female-led movie that they would debut (in line with Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey) for people to see, but also, Barbara Gordon has long been a fan-favorite character in DC Comics.
Plus, given that the movie will also have Michael Keaton as Batman, who will redebut next year in Flash, it might be good for this “Connective Tissue” to be seen in theaters and not just HBO Max.
Only time will tell if it happens though.
