Rainbow Skies, the PlayStation-exclusive RPG from SideQuest Studios, will be coming to PlayStation 4 in addition to the previously announced PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in the second half of 2016, the developer announced today.
In addition to Rainbow Skies launching on PS4 alongside the PS3 and PS Vita, SideQuest Studios’ last game, Rainbow Moon, will also be getting a PS4 release “sometime in 2016.” Whether that release will align with the release of Rainbow Skies or not remains to be seen.
SideQuest Studios also offered some new details regarding the development of Rainbow Skies, which was announced in 2013 to be launched in 2014 on PS3 and PS Vita. It was delayed multiple times and now carries a release window of 2016, presumably to allow for all three versions to have a simultaneous release, as the developer will also be integrating cross-save support across all three PlayStation platforms.
“Rainbow Skies has an increased emphasis on storytelling, writing, character backgrounds, and acting, so players can expect a more interesting and well-crafted plot that features many twists and turns along the way,” SideQuest Studios CEO Marcus Pukropski said in a post on the PlayStation Blog. The complex background story consists of multiple, interwoven narratives, told with easy-to-read dialogue that’s entertaining and, in the case of certain characters, extremely funny.
“Along with enlisting the help of a dedicated story and script writer, the original monologue system from Rainbow Moon has been replaced by a more complex dialogue system. Up to four characters can speak simultaneously which leads to much more lively conversations. We have also implemented numerous new animations, emoticons, and conversation-specific icons that help convey the feelings and moods that our heroes undergo during their journey.”
Rainbow Skies will be released on PS4, PS4, and PS Vita in 2016.
