In a new trailer released today by 2K Games, executive producer of Mafia 3 Andy Wilson discusses the meaning of the word family as it relates to the upcoming entry in the open-world crime game.
“Family means multiple things to [main protagonist] Lincoln [Clay] in this game,” Wilson says. “As the game progresses, Lincoln actually, in his quest to take down the Italian mob, recruits three lieutenants, one of whom is actually Vito Scaletta who is the lead character from Mafia 2 – he was the hero in that game – and these lieutenants sort of, in a weird sense, become Lincoln’s new family. Although, it’s an uneasy alliance to a certain extent. As Lincoln builds his new crime empire, he’s also, in a sense, building a new family, as well.”
Mafia 3 was announced at Gamescom 2015 last week. Initial details of the game include information on Clay’s past as a Vietnam war veteran and his need, as an orphan, to constantly have a family that he belongs to. It is set in 1968 New Orleans and, having returned from the war in Vietnam where he had gone to find a family, Clay will attempt to find a new family in the black mob. His mixed race heritage is said to provide an internal struggle for the character as he constantly aims to find a place and group of people he belongs to.
Players can expect to step into Lincoln Clay’s shoes next year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
