Exciting news just in for Xbox Game Pass Subscribers. As exclusively reported to Windows Central, Microsoft has confirmed it will be going ahead with a ‘Family Plan’ subscription model. This will enable different members of one household to effectively share the Game Pass library through one person’s subscription.
As things currently stand, individual Xbox Game Pass subscribers are able to access a massive catalogue of Xbox games for one fixed monthly fee. However, at present, this applies to the account holder only, meaning that if other members of the household want to have the same level of access to all the great games on offer via Game Pass, they’ll need their own subscription. This has been kind of a flaw in the Game Pass formula up until this point; not being able to share a subscription with other members of the family has perhaps been an oversight compared to other subscription models such as Disney+ or Nintendo’s Family Plan.
Thankfully though this now looks set to change. According to the update from Windows Central, ‘trusted sources familiar with Microsoft’s efforts’ have confirmed that Microsoft is now looking to move ahead with an Xbox Game Pass Family Plan at some time this year. It will, reportedly, allow five players to have access to the Game pass library for one Xbox Game Pass Family Plan subscription. This plan will be on a higher payment tier but obviously will cost considerably less than paying for separate access for individual family members.
This sharing model will be welcome news for families and will make gaming much more accessible for those with large households. While the exact structure of the Xbox Game Pass Family Plan and indeed, the price points for it are as yet unknown, further details are expected to come out on this in the not too distant future.
