Gamestop Lists ‘Supercharged’ 2TB PlayStation 4

July 27, 2015 by Vanessa Lopa

Convenience comes with a price, but this might be a bit much.

Games are getting pretty hefty nowadays, and not a lot of people are big fans of deleting stuff off their consoles. Sony tried to address the storage capacity problem by releasing a 1TB PlayStation 4, and while that’s okay for some folks, it’s just not enough for others. Gamestop’s got you covered – sort of.

Gamestop has listed a “supercharged” PlayStation 4 that’s packing 2TB of hard drive space. Sounds like a godsend, until you see the price tag: $479.99 seems a bit much for a “premium refurbished” unit. It’s pre-owned, got a 2TB HDD slapped into it, and… that price tag just isn’t computing, for some folks. The page simply lists a 2TB HDD of unspecified origins in the product specifications, which looks like a red flag to us, considering they were able to specify that with their supercharged PlayStation 3 units.

You could definitely buy a brand new unit and swap the drives yourself, and have an extra hard drive sitting around for backup, and you could save a pretty penny. For those who have no time or patience to swap it themselves, this is still a viable option, albeit a pricy one. It’s admittedly not the best deal on the market, but if a 2TB drive is doable, we’re wondering why Sony hasn’t done it themselves.

Have you upgraded your PlayStation 4 yourself? Would you recommend this option to anyone, or would you tell them to run away screaming? Sound off in the comments.
