Fable 4: Job Listing Shows Game Will Not Release Any Time Soon

January 12, 2022 by Matt Cook

Looks like Fable fans will have to wait a while longer.

Initially being announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, Fable 4 is a highly anticipated game despite currently having an undisclosed release date. A tweet announcing an open position on the game’s storytelling team suggests the Fable sequel could be a lot earlier in its development than previously hoped.

The lead writer on Fable 4, Anna Megill, posted on Twitter yesterday, “Narrative designers! Playground needs an ND with “a creative eye for storytelling mechanics & systems & a deep understanding of the interactive requirements of game narrative.” Come work with me & my brilliant, funny team.” The listing goes on to say that the ideal candidate should have “a creative eye for storytelling mechanics & systems & a deep understanding of the interactive requirements of game narrative.”

Fans of Fable have been left in the dark since the next installment’s first announcement in 2020, leaving fans wondering about its development. Several rumors that the game would be revealed at E3 2021 swirled before the game showcase but never came to fruition. This new job posting is the first glimpse into the current level of development for Fable 4.

As Fable 4 seems to be in the story-writing phase, it looks like it is still early days for the game’s production. Especially considering the position is looking for someone to help develop the game’s lore and dialogue systems. Many fans were hoping for a 2022 release but it looks like they’ll have to wait a while longer.

The first Fable was released for Xbox on September 14, 2004, and “promised an experience like no other.” Unfortunately, it had a rocky start with the game suffering from a lack of content. Lionhead Studios eventually partnered with Microsoft and released an extended version of the game a year later in September 2005. Fable went on to become a critical and commercial success.

Fable 4 is due to be exclusive to the Xbox Series X/S and PC. Hopefully, that also means it will be available on Game Pass from launch day.
