Fallout 4 Map Layout And Fictional Locations

June 6, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Fans did extensive cross referencing between real life maps and references of Boston to the small details found in the trailer.

Remember when we noted that the Fallout 4 trailer used landmarks from the freedom trail in historic Boston? Some fans have taken it a step further with amazing results. They have figured out Fallout 4’s map layout.

How is this even possible based on a trailer, you may ask? By extensive cross referencing between real life maps and references of Boston to the small details found in the trailer. We will skip the details on how they pulled off this impressive feat here, to focus on the meat of the matter: the layout, specifically, the in-game locations that do not exist in real life.

Players will start at Vault 111, whose modern day equivalent is Whitney Hill Park, inside Watertown. Both locations are surrounded by a river, have a bridge next to the park, and are close to a hill. This would place players close to the center of the map, leaning just a little more to the right.

The garage is north of Boston and facing south. It also points players east of the starting area, and that means you are two times closer to the city than you were from Vault 111.

Finally, the nuclear explosion depicted in the trailer struck a city southeast of Vault 111, and it has a fitting real life name: Brighton.

You can see a comparison of the real life Boston landmarks compared to how they appear in Fallout 4 here.

Fallout 4 will be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
