Dead by Daylight to Start ‘The Ring’ Crossover in March

December 15, 2021 by Carley Garcia

Just as long as we don’t die in seven days.

Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight has been incorporating popular horror properties for the last half-decade, adding everything from Pyramid Head to Hellraiser. The asymmetric survival horror title invites four players, called survivors, to escape one murderous player, the killer–and it’s as addictive as it sounds. March 2022 will see the next big licensed property added to the game when the Japanese psychological horror franchise Ringu (The Ring) makes the jump into the popular title. Plans were announced yesterday in a brief YouTube trailer.

Details regarding how The Ring franchise will be incorporated are scarce for now, but it seems that the collaboration will pull from both the 1998 Japanese film adaptation and Koji Suzuki’s original novel on which the film was based. There’s no telling which characters will appear, though Sadako as the new killer would be more than enough to scare the pants off normal players.

Along with the teaser trailer, Dead by Daylight’s director Mathieu Côté made a comment in a news release. “This new Chapter will give our players something intensely dark and troubling, a real heart-pounding experience that adds to the already high intensity of our game,” he stated. When asked how this match made in heaven came about, Côté seemed particularly thrilled. “Ringu was very high on my wishlist of potential collaborations! So, we can say that creating a new chapter based on this Japanese masterpiece is a dream come true,” he said. “Dead by Daylight is a way for us to introduce our fans to the fears and nightmares from other cultures, the Northern European folklore with the Binding of Kin Chapter for example, or the Latin American heritage with our new chapter Portrait of a Murder. So, offering players around the world a deep dive into this gem of the Japanese culture is for us an honor and a very exciting project.”

Dead by Daylight was originally released for the PC in 2016. In 2017, the game made its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and was added to the Nintendo Switch library in 2019. The new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S editions were released in November 2020. For those wanting to play the game while traveling during the holiday season, Dead by Daylight is also available for iOS and Android. From December 1 until January 5, 2022, the game is offering exclusive holiday rewards during the Season of Giving event.
