After the pandemic hit the world in 2020, we had a pretty tough transition into remote working. That pushed quite a few projects back that year and in 2021. Fortunately, that means 2022 will be filled with exciting video games that are well worth the pickup. Check our list below if you’re charting out what games to check out in 2022. In addition, we’ve got a few FPS titles that we think you should be keeping tabs on.
Disclaimer: Instinction, ExoMech, Atomic Heart, STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Starfield, Redfall, Ripout, Boundary, Plan 8, Project Ferocious, The Anacrusis, Leap, and Crossfire X were removed.
#19 Metal Hellsinger
- Publisher: Funcom
- Developer: The Outsiders
- Platforms: PC PS4 PS5 Xbox One XSX|S
- Release Date: September 15, 2022
Are you ready to beat the citizens of the underworld to death while you rock out to heavy metal music? If you’re not, then you shouldn’t come close to Metal Hellsinger. It’d be unsafe for your health.
The game puts you in the role of The Unknown, a being that is half-human and half-demon. They’re on a quest to defeat the being who made them who they are, and they’re not going to be gentle about it.
But it’s the game’s music and how it affects gameplay that you’ll need to pay attention to. Hit your attacks to the beat of the music to do more damage! The better you do, the better you slay.
#18 Prodeus
- Publisher: Humble Games
- Developer: Bounding Box Software
- Platforms: PC PS4 PS5 Xbox One XSX|S Switch
- Release Date: September 23, 2022
When it comes to the modern era of gaming, many titles try to overshadow what the games of the past did to attempt to make them feel obsolete. But for Prodeus, it does the opposite. It mixes the old-school gameplay style of the original games in the FPS genre and then gives the title a modern look.
You’ll work your way through a base filled with monsters where your only goal is to kill them. But then, when you’re done with the main mode, you can head to multiplayer and create a map for you to try out and put against others!
So if you want a “boomer shooter,” Prodeus is for you.
#17 Cultic
- Publisher: 3D Realms
- Developer: Jasozz Games
- Platforms: PC
- Release Date: October 13, 2022
Cultic is a fast-paced and challenging shooter that will have you progressing through wave after wave of cult followers.
Chapter one of the game features ten maps for you to go through, and you’ll need to be quick on the draw and precise with where you aim. If you aim the shot perfectly, you can take out people in one blow. But be warned, they can do the same to you.
You’ll be able to work your way through the levels and cultists at the pace you desire. So go in guns blazing or figure out a way to tackle things slowly. It’s your call.
#16 The Entropy Centre
- Publisher: PlayStack

The reason people love physics-based puzzle games is that they love the challenge that they present. The Entropy Centre will provide you a challenge that takes you through time to solve the problems ahead of you.
In the game, an extinction event has come to Earth. You are somehow one of the survivors, meaning you’ll need to learn what you can from the titular center to figure out a way to save the planet.
Use your special weapon to reverse time through objects so you can solve puzzles and figure out the truth about what happened to the planet. Will you be able to save the planet?

Blood West is a mix of stealth, horror, and FPS action, all set in the Wild West. Players take on the role of a gunslinger who has been brought back to life by strange spirits. Despite only being released into Steam early access in February 2022, Blood West already has an overwhelmingly positive rating. The game is fully playable in its current state and will be receiving content updates and improvements over the rest of the year.
#14 Midnight Ghost Hunt
- Developer: Vaulted Sky Games
- Publisher: Coffee Stain Publishing
- Platforms: PC
- Release: March 31, 2022
When you think of the best First Person Shooter games, Midnight Ghost Hunt perhaps wouldn’t be your first choice, but trust me when I say that this multiplayer game deserves to be present. This supernatural game of cat and mouse sees players facing off against each other to be the best. Be careful though, once the clock strikes midnight, the ghosts become more powerful.
#13 Choo-Choo Charles
- Developer: Two Star Games
- Publisher: Two Star Games
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022
Choo-Choo Charles is a horror game and a wacky one as well. Essentially, in this game, players are getting an atmospheric experience where you’re stuck essentially in a secluded forest area. Here we find that people are constantly terrorized by this spider-like train that freely roams around. In Choo-Choo Charles, you’re trying to take out this monster, but it will require players to use an old train engine to reach certain areas quickly. Players will have to gun down the enemy with a machine gun mounted on the train, but your train won’t be enough to take on this critter. So instead, the map is filled with various parts to upgrade your train.
#12 Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem
- Developer: Croteam, Timelock Studio
- Publisher: Devolver Digital
- Platform: PC
- Release: January 25, 2022
Serious Sam is an iconic FPS game, and chances are you’re already familiar with it. This time around, Sam is tossed into Russia. It’s a brand new large area for players to explore and fight off hostile alien beasts that have invaded mother Russia. Again, players can expect a standalone chapter for this long-running video game franchise. If this is your first time experiencing this IP, it’s a fast-paced, action-packed game that’s a bit like Doom. You’ll constantly run around and gun down enemies that swarm in. This is also coming out shortly after the launch of Serious Sam 4, which was released initially in 2020. Although it looks like since this upcoming release is a standalone release, you don’t have to go back and play any of the previous games.
#11 Scorn
- Developer: Ebb Software
- Publisher: Ebb Software
- Platform: PC, X/S
- Release: October 22, 2022
Scorn is a game that will catch your eye rather easily. It’s a first-person horror title that throws players into a nightmare of a world. Everything in this unknown world is full of flesh, bone, and steel. If you’re hoping to find out what this game premise consists of, you’re out of luck. There are no details on that front as the development studio is giving players a world where the goal is to explore and figure out what’s going on as you progress. With that said, the game is set up in a non-linear map filled with enemies and puzzles to solve. Players can also expect a survival horror element to this game since the developers have stated that Scorn will feature limited inventory with ammo management. This means that you’ll need to decide if you should waste your ammo on an enemy or potentially save the resources for whatever else may be waiting ahead.
#10 Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
- Developer: Fatshark
- Publisher: Fatshark
- Platform: PC, X/S
- Release: 2022
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide quickly draws fans in from the Vermintide 2 release. This is another cooperative multiplayer game where players are fighting off a swarm of enemies and creatures. We’ve seen several of these wave-based type of FPS games come out before. Fans of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise will see that this installment will follow a squad of Imperial Guardsmen dealing with a Chaos infiltration. This game was showcased already back in 2020, and it’s received quite a bit of praise. However, the 2021 scheduled launch did get pushed back due to the pandemic. As a result, we should Warhammer 40,000: Darktide come out sometime this year.
#9 High on Life
- Developer: Squanch Games
- Publisher: Squanch Games
- Platform: PC, XBO, X/S
- Release: December 13, 2022
If you’ve never heard of High on Life, well, get ready for a trippy experience.
In the game, you’ll play as…well, a nobody, one who is doing pretty much nothing until an alien invasion comes around and decides that they need humans…to literally get high. Welcome to High on Life. Get it? Anyway, you’ll suit up to become a bounty hunter and take down the aliens before you get smoked…literally.
As you traverse alien worlds you’ll get to use “mouthy guns” with different abilities to fight off the aliens. Plus, you’ll get to meet other interesting characters who don’t want to kill you (we hope) and explore ever shifting spaces of terrain.
Are you ready to make something of yourself in this life?
#8 Destiny 2: The Witch Queen
- Developer: Bungie
- Publisher: Bungie
- Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, XBO, X/S
- Release: February 22, 2022
The Witch Queen is a major expansion for Destiny 2 that introduces the new location of Savathun’s Throne World. Besides having a whole new story and activities to enjoy, you’ll be able to participate in a new raid called Vow of the Disciple as well as two additional dungeons as the expansion continues to be developed. There is also a new difficulty called ‘Legendary’ which is designed to be difficult but yield more rewards for those who complete it. It’s also important to note that this update removes much of the content from the Forsaken expansion and puts it away in the Destiny Content Vault including all of the campaign as well as the Tangled Shore destination and its activities.
#7 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Developer: Gearbox Software
- Publisher: 2K Games
- Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, XBO, X/S
- Release: March 25, 2022
In 2021 we got the big unveiling of a brand new Borderlands game spinoff. Gearbox is bringing out an installment based around the chaotic and fan-favorite character Tiny Tina. Players will go through a high fantasy FPS filled with battles and over-the-top escapades in this game. Similar to Borderlands, you can expect that there’s bound to be plenty of loot to gather up along the way. Gearbox created the game with the inspiration of old-school tabletop D&D, and while there are guns, we know there is also some spellcasting involved. We’re still waiting on the premise to make its way out into the public, but we do know that players will have their own character to take control of rather than being Tiny Tina. Fortunately, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was developed to allow anyone to play the game. So you don’t have to play any of the past Borderlands installments to enjoy Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. Of course, with that said, if you’re fans of Borderlands, then you’ll likely find quite a bit of enjoyment with this game still.
#6 The Cycle: Frontier
- Developer: Yager
- Publisher: Yager
- Platform: PC
- Release: 2022
If you’re interested in a PvPvE game, check into The Cycle: Frontier. This game puts players onto an alien planet where you have to complete a series of contract goals. However, you’ll have different hostile creatures to battle against alongside other players. This is a brutal FPS as you seek out loot and complete your different tasks. With that said, you’ll need to reach the special EVAC ship to get out with your payload at the end of the round. Unfortunately, this game doesn’t have a release date quite yet. Currently, the developers are pushing to get the game out into the marketplace sometime within this year.
#5 Shadow Warrior 3
- Developer: Flying Wild Hog
- Publisher: Devolver Digital
- Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO
- Release: 2022
If you’ve never played a Shadow Warrior game, then it’s well worth going back and enjoying them today. These are energetic and fast-paced action games. Players are tossed into a wacky protagonist named Lo Wang as he goes through different misadventures. Being a shogun, Lo Wang is armed to the teeth with weapons and can maneuver around the battlefield with ease. In the past, the games were a gore-filled mess, with crude humor and strong language, which we’re expecting with the upcoming third installment. This time around, we know that Lo Wang is forced to fight back a dragon that was unleashed from an eternal prison. It’s bound to be his greatest battle yet, and he’ll need enough firepower to hold back an apocalypse. Currently, at the time of writing this description, the game is only slated to launch in 2022.
#4 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Extraction
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
- Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, XBO, X/S
- Release: January 20, 2022
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six is receiving a new video game installment this year.Initially titled, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Quarantine, the game is now going by Rainbow Six: Extraction. With that said, this is another team-based tactical shooter somewhat like Rainbow Six Siege. However, it’s a PVE type of title where players are working together in hopes of stopping some kind of an alien parasite. It’s this parasite that proves to be hostile against players and if infected, players are only given so long before they are a lost cause if they are not healed. This tactical shooter has slipped by in 2021, but fortunately, it looks like we’ll get our hands on the game early 2022.
#3 Dying Light 2: Stay Human
- Developer: Techland
- Publisher: Techland
- Platforms: PC, NS, PS4, PS5, XBO, X/S
- Release: February 4, 2022
Dying Light 2 will again set players back into a world filled with zombies. In fact, the game will take place fifteen years into the apocalypse, where much of humanity has been cut down to nothing. Only small areas remain for those who wish to seek refuge, but oftentimes it comes conflicting factions. In the middle of the chaotic battle for power is our protagonist. Outside of exploration and fighting off the zombie threats, players will be dealing with these factions however they see fit. There is more freedom of choice than the first title in going about missions. A big part of the development for this sequel was making parkour and combat more connected. Players should think of the world as their playground. As you get used to moving around the area, there should be the ability to get creative during combat. Whether it’s vaulting around the area while lining up shots or getting up close for some intense melee.
#2 Call of Duty Warzone 2.0
- Developer: Infinity Ward
- Publisher: Activision
- Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, XBO, X/S
- Release date: 2022
The original Call of Duty Warzone was the franchises first attempt to go and do a Battle Royale-style title. To their credit, they were able to make it work, and with it being free-to-play, they were able to attract 125 million players to come and join in the chaos.
But now, it’s time for an upgrade, a massive one at that. Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 is promising to launch with not just a new map, but a host of improvements and “innovations” to not just make its gameplay grander, but the experience as a whole better.
The new version will launch alongside Call of Duty Modern Warfare II and be a “true extension” of the world. We’ll have to see all they mean by that when it launches.
#1 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II
- Release date: October 28, 2022
- Developer: Infinity Ward
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, PC, XBO, X/S
- Publishers: Activision
What is there to say about the Call of Duty franchise that hasn’t been noted by others at this point? You absolutely know what you’re getting in the game just by playing it. And this isn’t even the first time we’ve had a Modern Warfare 2!
But, it is one that will have a new story, updated graphics, and so on, and clearly they feel confident enough to make a “replay” of what happened before just making it better. You can expect a worldly campaign, and of course the multiplayer is going to be something that you’ll want to check out and play with friends.
As sad and ironic as it is at points, sometimes the familiar is what people like best.
