Mass Effect TV Series on Amazon May Star Henry Cavill

December 13, 2021 by Carley Garcia

The Witcher actor teased a Mass Effect project back in February.

The second season of Netflix’s The Witcher series is scheduled to premiere this Friday, December 17, and main actor Henry Cavill is in the midst of doing press for the highly-anticipated release. Back in February of this year, Cavill made news across the game-sphere after posting a curious image on Instagram, in which he can be seen holding a sheet of paper printed with a number of Mass Effect references. The actor is a known fan of the Bioware RPG, and it looks like we may have another clue in what could be happening sometime down the line.

In an interview with Games Radar, Cavill offered a comment on the possibility of a future Mass Effect TV project.

“Very much so, yeah, all depending on how they’re executing it. The world of adaptation can be heavy or light. When I like a product, I prefer the adaptation to be less changed from the source, so it all depends. I think it’s found a home, hasn’t it? If [the series] finds a home, I would love to have a conversation,” said Cavill. “I did not play Andromeda – I had a go at it, but ended up being very busy. But [The Mass Effect Trilogy]? Yeah. Loved it. Brilliant games. It would make such a magnificent series of movies or TV shows,” he concluded.

In November, a report from Deadline hinted at a Mass Effect television series coming to Amazon. On top of this, a new game in the franchise is rumored to be in the early stages of development and will take place many centuries after the events of Mass Effect 3.

Although fans of the RPG space drama may welcome a television adaptation, ex-Bioware writer David Gaider is less impressed. The former Lead Writer voiced his hesitations last month on Twitter, with his main concern being the state of the protagonist.

For starters, ME and DA have a custom protagonist. Meaning said TV show will need to pick whether said protagonist will be male or female. Boom, right off the bat you've just alienated a whole bunch of the built-in fan base who had their hopes up.

The Mass Effect series has not been officially announced.
