Affectionate called Yoshi-P by Final Fantasy XIV‘s legion of fans, producer Naoki Yoshida is known for his proactive approach to game design–and his love for those who have made the online title the massive hit it is today. The man never gives up when it comes to improving player’s experiences, and given the amount of time and energy he’s put into reviving the game from the ashes, it’s safe to say that Final Fantasy XIV will be pulling in new fans for many years to come. Only a month prior to the long-awaited Endwalker expansion, Yoshida has come forward to give an update on the possibility of an Xbox port of the title.
Though details are scarce, in an interview with Easy Allies, the title’s producer did indicate that negotiations with Microsoft are progressing smoothly. “I feel bad for saying the same thing every time, but we are still in discussions with Microsoft, and I feel like our conversations are going in a positive-like tone,” Yoshida stated. “I don’t want to say we do not have an Xbox version, but I’m hoping that the timing will be very soon that I will have some kind of update to the players. I’m sure there’s a lot of things that people want to ask about on this subject, and there’s a lot of things I would love to share, but I’m afraid I’m unable to divulge on those details, so when the time comes… I’m sure the time will come, so if you could kindly stand by, that’d be great.”
Given that the final push for Endwalker is underway, worrying about an Xbox port probaly isn’t high on the list of priorities for the development team as a whole. However, by adding the Microsoft console to the pot, the number of players is sure to skyrocket to something even more staggering. The game’s player base has surpassed 24 million people, making it the most profitable Final Fantasy title to date.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker will release on November 23, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The newest expansion will introduce the Data Travel Center, allowing players from different locales around the globe to finally play together. Though the feature was scheduled to release on Day One, it has now been delayed while the team deals with the MMORPG’s congestion problem.
