Far Cry 7 Needs An Overhaul After Far Cry 6

October 12, 2021 by Matt Cook

Far Cry 6 feels like too much of the same. The franchise needs an overhaul for Far Cry 7.

Far Cry 6 is a good game, but it is one that is limited by the previous entries in the franchise, Far Cry 7 needs to overhaul the Far Cry series. Far Cry 6 is no doubt a good, well-made game, but it is lacking. It is lacking in improvements, it’s lacking in new ideas and now it’s clear that the Far Cry series is stale.

The problem with Far Cry 6 is that, besides the new setting and story, it feels like we played this game before. We played this game in 2019 with Far Cry: New Dawn. We played it in 2018 with Far Cry 5. In fact, so much of Far Cry 6 feels the same as the previous games that it’s tough to even point out what is new. Sure, the game looks better thanks to the next-gen graphical improvements but the core gameplay is too much the same as what we already played.

Ubisoft is known for making vast, beautiful open-worlds but where they are let down is that content throughout the world generally feels copy and pasted. That was the case in Far Cry 5 and it’s still the case in Far Cry 6. Far Cry 6 is a big game with lots of content but it feels like you’ve experienced all of what it has to offer within the first few hours. The rest is just new versions of the same thing. There’s only so many ways you can capture a checkpoint, over and over and over.

Ubisoft needs to reinvent the series for Far Cry 7. They did it before with Assassin’s Creed and the complete reinvention of that series with Assassin’s Creed Origins and now it is time for Far Cry to receive that treatment. Well, it was already time for Far Cry to receive that treatment. Far Cry 6 should have been the overhaul that reinvented, refreshed, and improved the series. But, better late than never to receive that overhaul for Far Cry 7 instead.
