Mining is just one of those professions in video games that's almost as boring as it is in real life. You click on a node and watch your character mine for materials, yielding whatever rocky rewards you get for clicking on the digital piece of rock.
Mining has also been a staple of space games, where space miners mine for rare minerals out in asteroid fields and the like–so it comes as no surprise that it's going to make its way into the upcoming Star Citizen from Cloud Imperium Games.
Today, the game's developer detailed the mining career path for the game, and from the sounds of it, it's actually going to be a lot of fun–and no less rewarding than other aspects of the open universe game.
As someone who's dabbled in EVE Online, I can't help but let out a sigh of relief knowing that the developers realized what wasn't fun with mining in the space sim genre and turned it around into something enjoyable.
Check out the developer's extensive design post for details on how mining works in Star Citizen.
