Minecraft is one of the most unique, innovative and popular titles of our generation. Its popularity rivals that of World of Warcraft, even in the monumental MMORPGs most fruitful days. Gamers create enormous worlds and environments in Minecraft, and sometimes, they'll let us in for a special peek.
In what has arguably been the biggest undertaking in Minecraft's history, 125 players have been on a quest to recreate Game of Thrones' Westeros inside the game. Consider the size of Westeros, and you've got quite a large task at hand.
Project lead Jacob Granberry spoke to Kotaku:
I would say the world is at around 70% completion. Since we last spoke, we've developed a custom launcher for the game that comes packed with our WesterosBlocks mod which includes over 50 new custom blocks and textures specifically made for our server. So, we completely repainted our map with new textures, and some of our old builds we are building over bigger, better, and more realistic. That Kings Landing render from a few years ago? Yea, we are remaking that entire city again.
Here's a video that highlights a number of important locations from the Game of Thrones series that are currently being constructed in this Minecraft project:
