Every other major region is getting both the New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL. Not North America, though. Why? Because the XL "makes the most sense for our market." Does it really? Let's see how the Nintendo's UK branch is handling the regular New 3DS model.
It began when Nintendo allowed select British fans to purchase a special "Ambassador Edition" of New 3DS in advance of the hardware's official release date. Now Nintendo is rolling out a "Build Your Own Bundle" promotion through its online store. For £159.99 (only £10 more than standard retail price), users can select either the white or black New 3DS, one of nine different cover plate options, and a Mario Holder statue upon which to rest your handheld when not playing. Oh, and just for kicks, Nintendo will throw in a free wall charger as well — a charger is normally not included as standard with any of the machines in any region.
Meanwhile, North Americans will have to settle for the New 3DS XL, minus wall charger. Or do we? A reddit user named EqualsN is asking fans to call Nintendo of America's customer service line to let the company know that it's a mistake not to sell the basic model here. The reddit page has been updated several times already, noting that the high call volume is already starting to clog up Nintendo's lines, meaning we're at the very least annoying the service representatives. Hopefully, Nintendo takes note of this movement and delivers a satisfactory reply.
