Maxis has shared a new trailer for a new expansion to The Sims 4. Introducing Outdoor Retreat.
Maxis breaks it down on their own blog. There is a new area, called Granite Falls, where people can go camping, fishing, or doing outdoorsy stuff. The scope doesn’t seem to include mountain climbing or trekking, but you can go as far as taking hiking trips. There are a bunch of new herbs and insects to collect, almost like some other sim game set in the outdoors.
Of course, there are new items for camping and hiking, including tents, camping outfits, coolers, etc. If you somehow wanted to simulate some real life activities, you can have a staycation and camp in your backyard too.
So, aside from the conventional hiking and hanging out a campfire, you can go deep in the woods and look for a hermit.
You can also earn a new skill in herbalism, which makes you facile in finding and identifying herbs in the wild and making soothing remembies.
Finally, and in what is an interesting choice, you can get bear costumes. I think Maxis was mindful of balancing what activities from real life they wanted to bring in the game, and respecting people with special needs and interests. In this case, they wanted the game to be safe and not triggering to people who were victims or lost friends and family to bear attacks. I don’t know if this is good enough to deflect that, but having your Sims playing as bears may be more fun anyway.
There’s even more, such as ranger hats, a new squeamish trait, a new aspiration in being an outdoor enthusiast, etc. Check out the trailer above to see.
