Nintendo Promises to Restock GameCube Controller and Adapter

December 15, 2014 by Tony Ponce

A much more clear response compared to the company’s amiibo comments.

Remember, it's not just amiibo that are tough to find. The GameCube Adapter, which allows you to play Super Smash Bros. for Wii U using the familiar GC pad, has been a little hard to come by worldwide as well. All you need to do is go on sites like Amazon, where prices approach $100 and beyond, to understand that the demand is real. What is Nintendo doing about all this?

While the company has been waffling on the status of amiibo supply, only recently giving somewhat of a firm answer, the response concerning the GC Adapter and the Smash-branded GC controllers is a lot more direct. Game journalist Chris Kohler received this statement from the Big N:

Both the Super Smash Bros. Edition Nintendo GameCube Controller and the Adapter that connects it to the Wii U console remain in distribution in the North American region. Nintendo of America is doing everything we can to meet the strong demand for these products, and additional stock will be made available and delivered to retailers. We ask consumers to contact their local retailers directly regarding availability.

It's rather ironic that, despite the Wii U console itself not experiencing even a fraction of the demand that the Wii did, these new products have become every bit as supply-constrained as the Wii in its heyday. Feels rather nostalgic, no?
