Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Cover System Explained

December 4, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

The new system allows fans to experiment and play like daredevils.

Ubisoft has elaborated on the nuances of the leaning system for upcoming tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.

By default, leaning left and right has been mapped to pressing the analog sticks. Whether you’re using a DualShock or an Xbox controller, you press down on the left analog stick to lean left and the right analog stick to lean right.

You will want to learn to lean on instinct, to get into experimenting with the game’s cover system as soon as possible. Unlike the shooter convention, which requires you are close to a wall to cover, Rainbow Six Siege allows you to take cover from anywhere based on line of sight.

The implications for this are tremendous, as you can lean any time you want and anywhere you are, while in ADS or when holding a grenade.

Ubisoft also previewed one extremely lethal application of the cover system. One sharpshooter can lean in from behind the point man, to ensure kills against anyone the team runs across.

Of course, Ubisoft had to balance this function out, and so this cover system comes with a major vulnerability. When you peek out from cover, you make your own head an easy target. This risk/reward proposition promises tense showdowns, and the opportunity for daredevil plays.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be released on 2015 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
