Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Remaster Is Reportedly In The Works

August 13, 2021 by Dennis Patrick

Fans might be getting this remastered trilogy later this year.

Grand Theft Auto has been around for ages, and the games continue to bring a massive audience with each release. Unfortunately, we haven’t had a new installment released in several years. After the launch of Grand Theft Auto V back in 2013, the game series has been more or less dormant. Instead of new installments, we’ve been receiving new ports of Grand Theft Auto V and updates to Grand Theft Auto Online. Today, fans are spreading around reports, speculation, and rumors of a Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remaster.

This news comes from Kotaku, who had claimed sources close to Rockstar Games have stated remastered editions are coming soon. The collection will include Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and, lastly, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. We should see enhanced visuals while the games remain faithful to the original installment content. Of course, we don’t know just how well these games could look compared to the original installments, but this would likely hold players over until the next mainline installment comes out.

One of the sources for Kotaku also claimed that before the covid-19 pandemic, there were more concrete plans for a release. The plan was to offer this trilogy for free with a purchase of Grand Theft Auto V when it launches on next-gen consoles. Now it looks like the studio will be releasing them separately. Fortunately, the report says the launch is planned for October or November, so we should hear something soon when it comes to these games.

At the very least, this will give some new GTA content later this year. Going back to playing some of the earlier installments to the Grand Theft Auto franchise can be rough. Visually they are a massive step back from what we get in Grand Theft Auto V. For now, this is purely a rumor until official word comes out.
