Halo: The Master Chief Collection Multiplayer Ranking System Detailed

October 30, 2014 by Jacob Saylor

The multiplayer system for Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been explained.

Halo is most certainly one of the more legendary titles in recent years. When Bungie Studios pitched the ideas of 'space marine' and 'alien zombies' to Microsoft a few years ago, it's very possible that neither of them knew the gravity of what they had concocted. The series grew into a full-fledged phenomenon, complete with spin-off titles like Halo Wars and others. Now we're standing here in the wake of Halo 4, anticipating the next big wave. This will surely come in the form of 343 Industries' remastered Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The package of games comes with: Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3 and even Halo 4. All of the games will run at 60 frames per second and are exclusive to the Xbox One console. Personally, I think 60 FPS should be an industry standard. Maybe this will open up some eyes to just how much a higher frame rate improves the overall experience of a game.

343 Industries recently spoke to IGN about how multiplayer rankings will work within the game, considering they'll have to stretch across four different titles.

"The system uses the same exact XP requirements as the original Halo 2; players will earn XP when they win and lose XP when they lose, and total XP will determine their rank. You will have a skill-based ranking per each playlist; we ultimately decided not to have a 'master' ranking across all four games combined, given that player skill and approach varies radically between game chapters."

"Additionally, we’ve also modified matchmaking to use skill detection, which will put players into the fairest matches faster than any Halo game to date," a studio spokesperson continued. "In ranked hoppers, players will be evaluated after each match and can go up or down in ranks depending on how well they perform. Social matches will also be available for players who prefer a more relaxed play experience."
