Ubisoft is a massive video game development studio and it looks to be taking a risk with their Assassin’s Creed franchise. Over the years the video game installments have featured all kinds of different historical events, eras, and places all around the world. We’ve gotten to fall in love with different characters, their stories, and the dilemmas that led them through an epic journey. Although, just like with any game franchise there have been some installments that were praised more than others. However, going forward, we may find these games will transition to games as a service.
Games as a service either work incredibly well or quickly get shot down by the community. There’s no real way of knowing if the game will work until it’s released, but already fans are a bit skeptical of Assassin’s Creed being transitioned into a live service. Information about this game is incredibly vague right now and we’ll likely not hear more about it for a good while, but Ubisoft is working on what they call Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This is a live service-type of game release as mentioned, but it’s uncertain just whether this game would end up taking over other mainline installments to the beloved franchise.
Recently, Ubisoft held a call with investors where the head of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot was asked this very thing. There were a ton of questions regarding what the future of Assassin’s Creed holds, especially on whether there would be premium video game installments released alongside Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Unfortunately, that question was not answered directly but that doesn’t mean there is any lack of development and hard work being put into Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
This game project is just getting started so again it might be a good long while before those finer details regarding the future of this IP are unveiled. However, Yves Guillemot did make note that fans can expect the same level of rich narrative experiences in Assassin’s Creed Infinity that the video game IP has been known for. Perhaps this live service could work out but only time will tell.
