PS4 vs Xbox One: Xbox One Gets Ahead In UK, Thanks To FIFA 15 And Price Cut

September 30, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

PlayStation 4 received a cheaper console and FIFA 15 release too, but Microsoft got ahead by announcing first.

Xbox One has reeportedly found success against PlayStation 4 in the UK this past week, thanks in part to FIFA 15.

Of course, FIFA 15 is available on PlayStation 4 as well, so how did Xbox One end up on top? What happened next is textbook marketing.

Microsoft announced a price cut for its console to £330 on the 24th, two days before the FIFA 15 in the UK. While this was a temporary price cut, Microsoft claims it was intended to help them sell exclusives, such asSunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2.

Not to be outdone, Sony announced a FIFA 15 console bundle for PlayStation 4, bringing the game along with the console for only £329, and just in time for the game release. Unfortunately for Sony, word spread on the Xbox One price cut earlier, and this was enough to give it a lead.

An anonymous source from retail claims Xbox One hardware sales jumped 155 % week on week.

Beyond unit sales, however, it is of interest if the past week led to either Sony or Microsoft making more money, or if they just barely broke even.
