GTA 5 PS4 & Xbox One: Rockstar Wants to Blow Your Mind

August 13, 2014 by Tony Ponce

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick hypes the anticapted next-gen port at gamescom.

MCV just conducted an interview with Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick at gamescom to ask about the definitive edition of Grand Theft Auto V, coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One later this year. The polished up-port was announced at E3 in June, along with the news that you can transfer your save files from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, enticing players to make the next-gen leap. Zelnick of course had to take an opportunity to hype the second stage of this entertainment extravaganza.

The original GTA V has already sold 34 million copies worldwide, but that's not enough for Zelnick:

One way to look at it is that 34m copies have been sold, but there's 7bn people on Earth. So we have over 6.9bn people left to address.

The game probably won't get close to hitting even 1 billion, but if there's a better example of shooting for the moon and landing amongst the stars, we'd love to hear it!

In the case of GTA V, nothing but the very best will satisfy Rockstar. They want to blow customers away. Whatever the expectation is, they want to exceed it. When you see GTA V on next-gen, I want you to tell me whether it is or isn't better than your expectation. I can guarantee it will be better.

And how will GTA V be better? Obviously, the graphics will be miles ahead. As you may remember from these comparison shots and this comparison video, everything from textures, draw distance, and lighting will be improved. There will even be more wild animals populating the landscape for added atmosphere!

And if you happen to be purchasing the PS4 version, you'll be in for an exclusive treat. PlayStation marketing vice president John Koller didn't spill any specifics, but he did indicate that PS4 players will have some sort of advantage over players on the other platforms.

No official release date has been announced for Grand Theft Auto V on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but a potential leak pinned the European release as November 14, suggesting the American version would arrive a few days earlier. No matter when it comes out, though, it's certain to hit massive sales numbers.
