Sierra is Reborn as Activision Launches a Teaser Page

August 8, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Activision has resurrected Sierra from the dead.

The classic PC label Sierra has been resurrected—brought back from the dead—by its brand owners at Activision-Blizzard. The company launched a splash page for the historic company, which principally developed and published graphic adventures for the PC.

The splash page depicts CGI footage of a man running through a snowscape before animated into a modern rendition of the Sierra logo. Beyond trademarks and company logos, the page states “Gamescom 2014,” suggesting that more will be revealed at the Cologne-based event.

Sierra was responsible for greats like the King's Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, and Spyro the Dragon, to name a few. It was the principal competitor to LucasArts during its heyday in the late 80s and early 90s, before being bought over by French company Vivendi Games in 1998.

In addition to its huge library of graphic adventures, Sierra served as the publisher for the world-renown Half-Life from Valve, as well as SWAT 4 and Starsiege: Tribes, which were developed by Irrational Games and Dynamix, respectively.

Gamescom is slated to take place from August 13 to 17, where further details are expected to surface. With any luck, we’ll be looking at reboots of familiar titles as full-fledged PC/new-gen console games and not mobile spinoffs.
