Gran Turismo 7 Won’t be a Prologue, Will Feature Standard Cars

June 27, 2014 by Stephen Daly

‘Standard’ cars are set to remain in the series.

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi has told Eurogamer that the Japanese developer is actively developing Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4.

"We are working on the title," he commented, adding, "I don't think it'll make this year," and "I don't think it'll be a Prologue."

He also revealed that the less detailed "standard" cars which entered the series in Gran Turismo 4 on PlayStation 2 are set to remain part of the series.

"I doubt that we'll be throwing away the standard cars. Each car has its own fans. So I think we'll hang on to the archive. In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into Premium cars as they become available – but basically we're more focussed on increasing the number of premium cars."

Last September, Yamauchi said that Gran Turismo 7 would be ready "in a year or two" and noted that the community aspect of the game would be "vital". He declared in November that the game could be released this year but that is no longer the case.

While his remarks would most likely point to a 2015 release for the game, Gran Turismo is a series notorious for delays. GT5 was announced in 2006 and slated for 2008 before eventually landing in 2010 and being delayed for three weeks just prior to launch.

Hopefully the same fate won't befall Gran Turismo 7.
