Gran Turismo 7 Could be Released as Early as Next Year

November 21, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Kazunori Yamauchi says the PS4’s ‘better’ architecture allows for faster development.

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi has revealed to Top Gear that Gran Turismo 7 could be released as early as 2014 on PS4.

While Gran Turismo 6 isn't due out until December 6th, Yamauchi said the swiftness with which they can make its follow-up is due to the PS4's “better” architecture.

"We don't want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7. Best-case scenario? Next year. In GT6 we really had to tune the software 100 per cent to maximise the PS3's architecture, but of course the PS4's hardware is much better, so I think the overall quality of the game across the board will be boosted when you come to play it.”

The only Gran Turismo games so far released on PS3 is GT5 in 2010 so such a fast turnaround from Polyphony would be a remarkable feat given the studio's usually long development cycles.

Back in September Yamauchi commented that Gran Turismo 7 would be released for PS4 "in a year or two". He has also said that Polyphony has a "PS4 version in mind" for GT6.

Gran Turismo 6 comes out a week after the PS4 launches in most countries on November 29th. Earlier this week it emerged that the game will be the first in the series to include microtransactions.
