We’re running down this week’s batch of Super Smash Bros posts in Miiverse, courtesy lead dev Masahiro Sakurai.
On Monday we got a look at a new stage, Mushroom Kingdom U. This stage is reminiscent of the platforms of the New Super Mario Bros. games, particularly New Super Mario Bros. U. This stage doesn’t scroll on you, but it will have Kamek popping out on occasion to change it up dramatically.
On Tuesday, we got to see something from the 3DS version. Sakurai revealed that Tortimer Island, straight out of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, will be a trophy. Similarly, many other stages have been converted into trophies for the 3DS version.
On Wednesday, we learned about a new item, the boomerang! You can catch it after throwing it to throw again, and every time you do it gains more attack power. However, the flip side to this is that your opponents can take it from you mid-air. Sakurai recommends you use the boomerang for Smash Run.
On Thursday we get just a fun little detail, again out of Animal Crossing. The Roost, the popular little café with the really good coffee, will be making an appearance in the Animal Crossing stage. This screenshot shows Brewster serving up Pelly and Sonny Resetti. Obviously, city employees need to have their chill time too.
Finally, today we get to see a new stage. Straight out of Fire Emblem, the Coliseum is described as a place of hope and despair. Sakurai reveals that the stage is littered with machinery across the ground, that will activate platforms for you. Definitely stuff to watch out for, and memorize.
Sakurai promises the Mushroom Kingdom U stage will be playable in E3 on June 10, and we hope everything they have revealed thus far will be the same as well. Super Smash Bros will be available on 3DS this summer and on Wii U this winter.
