Diablo 3: T2+ Cache Increased Chance of Legendaries Apply to Cache Specific Items

May 29, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

The buff to Horadric Caches applies to Cache-specific Legendary items.

Diablo 3’s 2.05 update buffed the drop rates on Tier II to Tier VI Horadric Caches, according to one of the game’s community managers, Nevalistis, who posted a detailed write-up on what the update contained in pertinence to the Horadric Caches.

For those not in the know, Horadric Caches are a new addition to Diablo 3 in Reaper of Souls, where they are acquired by players for completing five bounties in each act of the game. They contain all manner of gems, Nephalem Rift key fragments, and occasional Legendary items, some of which are unique to the Horadric Cache.

Here’s what Nevalistis wrote in regards to their buffed-ness in 2.05.

I can, indeed, back you up on that. That quoted post of mine is very old and doesn't account for changes that occurred with Patch 2.0.5. From the Patch Notes:

Horadric Caches

Now have an increased chance to drop Legendary items on Torment II – VI

This increased chance also applies to Cache-specific Legendaries, such as the Royal Ring of Grandeur. Bear in mind, however, that the Anniversary Buff that was recently made permanent does not apply to Cache-specific Legendaries.

Some folks have exceptionally good luck. Others perhaps not as much. That's simply the nature of random drops. The only Royal Ring of Grandeur I've seen so far dropped for me before I reached level 70. That's alright by me; it sets a clear goal to work towards. When I reach that goal, I can set my sights on a new one and adjust my play accordingly. If you're feeling fatigued by Act I bounties, you can give Act IV a try (as any Cache-specific legendary has a chance to drop from those Horadric Caches), or maybe just take a break from bounties and run some Rifts.

Bounties and Rifts offer a complementary style of play – swapping between the two is absolutely welcome and, mechanically speaking (since you need Keystone Fragments to open Rifts), a bit necessary. Perhaps its time to shift your focus from one to another for a while? 🙂

In other words, it still depends on your luck as to whether you'll receive Legendary items from Horadric Caches, and it's still entirely possible to go without a single Legendary after opening a long string of them–but the chances for finding Legendaries have definitely been improved.
