Square Enix is adding a convenient little addition to Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
For Patch 2.28, as a member of the Disciples of the Hand, you will be able to repair without changing classes. You get this, on top of extending equipment durability over 100 %, presumably to 199 %. The only prerequisite is you meet the necessary requirements.
We know, people who don’t actually play this time wouldn’t get this. Neither did we at first, but let’s break it down below.
A Realm Reborn has a repair system, meant to add a sense of realism, and also as a small money sink. Repairs unwittingly also became timesinks, especially for players at level 50 and above, because of the way the system is set up.
Basically, your character picks up different classes, and those have different armors. When you have your armors repaired, those are done one armor set at a time. As a result, players often end up mixing up their armors, especially when they have to switch classes in the middle of missions, or worse, forgetting which one is which, and getting armor breaks in dungeons because they forgot until the last minute.
This update makes it so you do not have to worry about switching classes to repair your armor for the different classes anymore, but that’s not all. With the extend durability option, you save as much as 80 % of your repair costs, assuming you wait until the right moment to start repair on it.
Other fans point out that they used to be able to repair gear for other players, aside from armor, and some still want that back, but that wasn’t brought up in this update. Others have also said that they just want an outright repair all function. However, we’re sure Square Enix chose wisely to change up gameplay this way, and a radical change like that would require serious consideration and level redesign. Given how they handle the game now, I don’t think it’s out of the question.
