Destiny Might Be Capped At 12 PVP

May 21, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

Also, PS4 is getting only a full HD experience, and I suspect a lot more.

Sony has revealed new information for Destiny, on their own PSN Store. Off the top, it would seem that the Playstation versions will allow players of 2 to 12 on a network. Does this cap PVP to twelve players?

Let’s look at some other details 1st. Sony has confirmed that they will support preloading for Destiny for both Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Furthermore, Playstation owners get 1st dibs on the upcoming beta. If you preorder the game, you can avail yourself of both the beta and the preloading option.

In previous public demos of the game, Bungie has shown as many as seven simultaneous players. Of course, this is not necessarily a sign of the full capabilities of the game (it can allegedly support 25 players) and we know Bungie remains careful in what they reveal about the game.

We got the information about a 2-12 player network from the PS3 preorder page on SEN, which you can see here:

On the other hand, the PS4 preorder page indicates the game requires a 1080p native display, indicating that it is getting a full 1080p version of the game. You can see that screencap here:

This is speculation on my end, but I’m guessing Bungie will allow 25 simultaneous players on the Playstation 4 version of the game. They had mentioned that it may not look good if a game session had 25 concurrent players, but they may simply be hinting at 7th gen consoles. We may see 25 player sessions, even PVP sessions, on capable PCs and 8th generation consoles.

Or maybe Bungie will forcibly limit it for parity’s sake across the board. In any case, players still have to unlock PVP, and we don’t know what the requirements for that will be yet, so if there’s a time based requirement it might even take a while to find out what the PVP limits will be.
