Harmonix Has ‘Grand Plans’ to Bring Rock Band and Dance Central to PS4 and Xbox One

April 11, 2014 by Stephen Daly

Both franchises and ‘near and dear’ to the studio and will make a ‘guns blazing’ comeback.

Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos has announced during a PAX East keynote address attended by GameSpot that the studio has "grand plans" to bring Rock Band and Dance Central to the new generation of consoles, presumably PS4 and Xbox One with the Wii U also a possibility.

Calling the two series "near and dear" to the studio, Rigopulos said that they will come back with "guns blazing" at "some point" during the current console cycle.

The last Rock Band game was 2012's downloadable title Rock Band Blitz while the last retail release, Rock Band 3, came out in 2010. The third installment of Dance Central was released in 2012 for Xbox 360 and it's unclear if the franchise will be making the jump to PlayStation when Harmonix do announce a sequel despite Rigopulos's comments.

Harmonix is currently developing Fantasia: Music Evolved – based on the Disney animated movie – for Xbox 360 and Xbox One as well as a free-to-play FPS called Chroma.

The studio has been hit by a string of layoffs in recent years due to the declinging popularity of the music game genre but maybe PS4 and Xbox One releases will mark a comeback.
