Notch Pulled VR Minecraft Because He’s Driven by Principles, Not Capitalism

March 28, 2014 by Josiah Renaudin

After being called a pouty kid, the creator of Minecraft decided to fight back.

In an attempt to promote virtual reality gaming, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson had planned to release a free version of Minecraft on the Oculus Rift for all to enjoy. The popularity of the brand was to help push the small team’s ambitions forward, but after the recent Facebook transaction that saw the company sell for $2 billion, this project has been pulled. Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski called Persson a “pouty kid” over his response to the purchase, so of course he had to respond in some manner.

“I'm a man driven by principles, not capitalism, so I guess I'll just have to get used to the occasional name calling,” he wrote on Twitter.

The remainder of the conversation is much less serious, as the two developers argue over why they’re not Facebook friends anymore. Still, it seems as if there’s a clear line in the sand after this massive VR transaction. The full conversation can be found here, if you're interested.
