We’re sharing rumors on details for Mirror’s Edge 2. Tellingly, EA has declined to comment on said rumors, and they fittingly match all the officially released information thus far.
Our source on this story, RocketChainsaw, claims they have seen video of the game in development, and trust their own sources. We have to rely on them for veracity, but everything looks good thus far.
The E3 2013 teaser video was realtime and mostly unscripted. Combat works just like it was shown in that trailer. The game is planned for release on Windows, Mac, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
The game will be a total reboot, set in an open world with an always online component comparable to what was found in Journey. There will be both co-op and competitive modes, including time trial.
As expected, Faith will not have guns, and will be facing down new enemies, at what is describes as equal footing to Faith. The combat system has been heavily revised based on feedback from the 1st game. It will now have a lot of emphasis on fluidity, speed, and environment interaction. Matrix style slow motion will be present but used sparingly, and the game will switch to 3rd person for certain take down moves.
However, combat is not the core of the game. DICE is designing it as a racing game at heart, and so the parkour will be front and center for the game, as it should be. The combat is also being tweaked to allow for seamless transitions to and back from parkour.
If everything about this game is true, Mirror’s Edge 2 is coming out in 2016. We’ll have all the time to wait until then.
