Resident Evil 8 Current-Gen Version Reportedly Dropped After Development Issues

June 15, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Capcom making this Resident Evil 8 installment next-generation only?

Just last week we had the reveal event from Sony regarding the line of video game titles coming out to the PlayStation 5. This was just the first batch of video game reveals as there were plenty of others in the mix which have yet to be unveiled. However, while there was plenty of exciting video game titles announced for the coming next-generation platform from Sony, there was on IP that stood out for plenty of fans. Capcom took the PlayStation event as a means to present the world to its next installment to the Resident Evil franchise.

Resident Evil 8 is coming out and while it looks rather impressive visually, it does offer fans some questions regarding why this game won’t be hitting current-generation platforms. While some games will hit the marketplace for both this current-generation platforms and next-generation platforms, Resident Evil 8 is one that just won’t be able to pull it off. This comes from a report by a Twitter user that has proven to be credible with the Resident Evil 8 leaks.

(2/3) load times because the game has you travelling through most of the Village and had a lot of load zones. Because there's a bigger focus on exploration this would lead to the last-gen console versions having notable issues, and it was holding back how pretty they could make

(3/3) certain scenes. So they decided to drop the last-gen versions of the game to make it so the game had no loading at all (not limited by last gen hardware) and push the graphic overhaul further without the limitations of last-gen tech in mind.

Twitter user AestheticGamer, has made note of why the Resident Evil 8 version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was tossed out. It seems that there was a big emphasis on exploring the in-game map which is large and filled with enemies. Because of the level of detail, Capcom is bringing to Resident Evil 8 and the expansive open areas, the current-generation platforms would not be able to pull off the gameplay without several loading screens. As a result, without having to scale the game project down or bogging down the experience for current-generation platforms, Capcom has made this game purely next-generation only.

This is of course just a report from a credible leaker rather than being a confirmed statement from Capcom. For now, Resident Evil 8 or otherwise known as Resident Evil Village, will be releasing at some point in 2021, for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
