President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Issues Statement on Preserving Internet Access in Europe

March 24, 2020 by Nick Biazzo

Think of all of the gamers out there!

Jim Ryan President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment has taken to the PlayStation Blog to release a statement on what the company is trying to do for gamers in the European region.

Due to the growing effects of COVID – 19, many of us are staying quarantined and self isolated, and as many of you would expect, the use of internet is our best friend. This comes doubly when it comes to gamers. Sony is currently working with a ton of internet providers to help ensure enough internet access for all gamers.

They plan on helping manage download traffic and create a stable internet connect to allow gamers to connect to their friends, online matches, or whatever else they do on PS4. However, sharing the wealth comes at a price, as some players might experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads.

Check out the official statement from CEO and President of Sony Interactive Jim Ryan down below:

Playing videogames enables players all over the world to connect with friends and family and enjoy much needed entertainment during these uncertain times. Sony Interactive Entertainment is working with internet service providers in Europe to manage download traffic to help preserve access for the entire internet community.

We believe it is important to do our part to address internet stability concerns as an unprecedented number of people are practicing social distancing and are becoming more reliant on internet access.

Players may experience somewhat slower or delayed game downloads but will still enjoy robust gameplay. We appreciate the support and understanding from our community, and their doing their part, as we take these measures in an effort to preserve access for everyone.

In related news, a leaked video from PlaySattion Access has revealed the upcoming free games of April 2020 for PS Plus members.

The video was an unlisted video, probably scheduled for the official release time, that has been taken down shortly after airing. However, keen eyes have seen the titles and they are some pretty great ones to be honest. Learn what games are going to be free for PS Plus members in April 2020 right here!

These slowdowns might not affect you, but in case you are seeing slower than usual speed, perhaps this is the reason. It is nice to see Sony trying to keep a steady flow of internet for all users on the service. Are you a gamer from Europe? Have you been experiencing slowdowns as of late? Let us know in the comments below!
