The Xbox Series X Quick Resume Feature Will Work Even After Console Reboots

February 27, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Seamlessly jump back into a video game without loading.

There is a lot of attention right now for the upcoming platform launches. Both Sony and Microsoft are gearing up to release their next-generation console this holiday season. While we’re still waiting for an official unveiling for both consoles that really dives into what both platforms can provide, although with that said, Microsoft did make some reveals for their Xbox Series X.

In a breakdown post from Xbox head Phil Spencer, we got some details in regards to what is powering the Xbox Series X. This ultimately allowed us to see just how much more powerful the console as compared to the Xbox One X. There are bound to be plenty of features left to be revealed for the console, but in the post, Phil Spencer highlighted the Quick Resume feature. Essentially, this is a feature in which players are able to jump into a game after exiting without the need to load.

Not only can you quickly jump right back into the gameplay where you left off, but Quick Resume will also work on multiple games at a time. For those that enjoy playing through several game titles without the need to load a game up may find this feature extremely useful. However, we are finding out today that the Quick Resume can go farther than originally noted.

“One of the things that I was noticing when I was in the lab when I was playing it, I was switching back and forth just real quickly and seamlessly between games, but then I had to reboot because I had a system update. And then I went back to the game and went right back to it. So it survives a reboot. That’s amazing.”

Microsoft’s Larry Hryb otherwise known as Major Nelson was able to confirm that the Xbox Series X could reboot and still jump right back into the gameplay. This is where the SSD comes to use and it’s one feature that could sway players from the current Xbox One lineup of consoles to the upcoming console generation.
