Developers Will Support Doom Eternal With Post-Launch Content

February 11, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Demand from players is the reason behind the long term support.

Doom has been a big hit over the years and is an iconic FPS, it has seen several installments and ports. However, in 2016 id Software was able to really bring out a revamp for the franchise that not only brought in veteran fans to the series once again but newcomers as well. Now that we’re getting close to the release of Doom Eternal, the development studio is admitting that they are making sure to support the game for the long run since the failure to meet the requests fans had with the 2016 launch.

While Doom was a reboot of the franchise and had plenty of hype building behind the launch, its likely become quite the surprise for the development studio id Software to see just how active the game is years later. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any real support after the launch as the studio went right into the development of its sequel, Doom Eternal. Now that we’re gearing to release of this sequel, it looks like the development studio will not make the same mistake.

Speaking with the Official Xbox Magazine, Doom Eternal’s Executive Producer Marty Stratton spoke of how the studio has plans on plenty of content after the game launch including new challenges, Master Levels and DLC. It seems that this is purely to allow more content to be available for those that want something new to enjoy without having to just replay the main campaign over again.

Luckily, for those that are wanting to pick up a copy of Doom Eternal, you don’t have too long of a wait. Currently, Doom Eternal will be releasing on March 20, 2020, for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Of course, it’s worth pointing out that the game will receive a port on the Nintendo Switch sometime later this year.
