New Reports Claim Unmarked Port On Back Of XSX Is For Expandable Storage

February 4, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Leaked photos of XSX Prototype leaves gamers guessing what port is on the back.

When it comes to the Xbox Series X, we don’t know very much about the hardware. Microsoft is keeping things rather tightlipped at the moment, however, two leaked images came out not that long ago that unveiled a closeup shot of the Xbox Series X prototype. With the images came a look of the rear port and it left some gamers baffled.

While the back of the Xbox Series X seemed rather traditional with the ports offered, there was one slot that left some gamers wondering just what it was used for. Initially, the thought process online was that this port was simply a way to run diagnostics for the system. If this was true, then this port would be removed before it was ready for mass production for its release this holiday season. However, now a new report going around online is suggesting that the Xbox Series X mystery port is a means for expandable storage for the console.

We know that the console will be releasing with an SSD and while that will significantly increase the boot times of the console and games installed on the drive, there are some suggestions that the drive will be relatively small when it comes to the size of certain video game titles. As a result, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Microsoft think ahead and provide gamers a way to further expand their storage drive.

Unfortunately, this is just speculative at the moment as there’s no official word from Microsoft about the port. Likewise, we’re still waiting for more information in general about the XSX. While we’re going to see some information about the console during E3 2020, it’s entirely possible that we will get an event prior to E3 about the console to further hype up its release this holiday season.
