Sony Holding Out On PS5 Price Announcement Until XSX Announcement

February 4, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

Will the PlayStation 5 come at a lower cost?

There is a ton of hype building behind both Microsoft and Sony as they are preparing the next-generation console releases. Little to nothing is known about either console platform as both Microsoft and Sony have yet to fully unveil the new platforms to the masses. Still, there are little tidbits of information to make their way out into the public. The latest information to reach the public is that Sony will be holding off on revealing the price of their new console until Microsoft announces theirs.

We are still waiting to hear from both Microsoft and Sony as mentioned, but we can all think back to the original announcements of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For Microsoft, their initial reveals of the Xbox One were poorly executed and the decisions at the time didn’t win over the gamers. It was a quite restricted console with DRM and limitations on what players could do in the newest Xbox generation platform at the time.

As a result, Sony won over the crowds at E3 when they unveiled the PlayStation 4 without the restrictions that Microsoft had on the Xbox One and that it would come out a $100 cheaper than its competitor. This could be the same move that Sony wants to hold for the PlayStation 5 as new earnings call from Sony by the chief financial officer, Hiroki Totoki, unveiled the latest for the PS5. We don’t know just when the PlayStation 5 will be revealed, but Totoki is indicating that Sony will be holding on to the price point at least until the Xbox Series X is unveiled with Microsoft alerting gamers just how much the console will cost them.

This could mean that Sony will be holding on their reveal of the PlayStation 5 until Microsoft holds its event. Again, we don’t know just when the Xbox Series X will be unveiled as the company could be holding an event prior to E3 2020. For now, we’ll simply have to wait and see just when Sony and Microsoft announce the newest platforms.
