1080p is Huge, Says Need for Speed: Rivals Dev

November 13, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

A developer behind Need for Speed: Rivals has come out to tell the fans how important 1080p really is to games.

Ghost Games’ senior producer, Jamie Keen, loves next-generation hardware. Where in the past the team has had to turn all of the graphical bells and whistles down in order to satisfy the requirements of the Xbox 360 and PS3, the power of new consoles – as well as the user-friendliness of DICE's Frostbite 3 – has allowed the Need for Speed: Rivals team to continue to push the envelope.

"That's been one of the joys of working with both next gen and Frostbite," Keen told OXM. "Just turning it on, seeing what it could do. Normally the process that happens during development is that you turn everything up, see how it runs, and then turn everything down. We've been turning everything up, and up, and up.”

Rivals is one of the many visually impressive products coming to Xbox One and PS4, and yes, it does run in 1080p. Game resolution has been one of the hottest topics of next-gen debate over the past few weeks, but Keen has put fans’ worries at ease by discussing just how important 1080p really is to the team.

"1080p is something that's really huge for us. We're really proud to be able to stand behind that – it gives it a massive visual fidelity," Keen said.

With DriveClub now delayed until next year, Need for Speed: Rivals should become one of the most anticipated racing games of the holiday season. Look for all the fast cars and crisp graphics when both the new hardware launches this month.
