Respawn: Titanfall Won’t Match Call of Duty Sales, Will Retail for $60

September 9, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Don’t expect Titanfall to knock off its biggest competition early on.

The first project to come out of Respawn Entertainment, the studio mostly composed of former Infinity Ward developers, won’t match the sales of the juggernaut that is Call of Duty. Titanfall might be winning just about every industry-related award that can be given out, but cofounder Vince Zampella understands that it takes time to build a brand to the level that Activision has built its flagship shooter.

Speaking on southern California's KFI AM60 (via GameSpot), Zampella admitted that his team isn’t expecting sales at the level of modern Call of Duty games.

"It's a new brand," Zampella said. "You build up momentum over the years when you put out a new brand. It's starting over, so it won't sell as well [as Call of Duty]."

What makes this particular game unique, though, is the true passion the team feels for it. Titanfall takes everything people love about shooters and adds a level of movement that’s never really been tried before – and breaking ground is exciting for Respawn.

"But for us it's… kind of a passion project. We love it. It's something new," he added. "It's taking the old paradigm of these shooter games being very grounded and two-dimensional and now adding this verticality to it and making it something that's a new experience; something that people haven't seen before."

Even though it’s a multiplayer shooter without any sort of campaign to speak of, Titanfall will retail for $60 next year. If what you’ve seen so far has you begging for more, that price shouldn’t be an issue.
