BioWare: Mass Effect 4 Will Appeal to ‘Old Fans and Newcomers’

July 16, 2013 by Stephen Daly

The game will retain GLBTI romance options.

BioWare Montreal Studio Director Yanick Roy has said that the next Mass Effect game will be "friendly both to old fans and to newcomers" on Twitter.

Roy added that it was "Too soon to say" if the game will have a Genesis style system for choosing the background of your character and some of key aspects of the game's back story.

Roy was also asked if the game will keep BioWare's tradition of having romance and gender options for GLBTI players to which he responded "There is no reason to believe otherwise at this point, don't worry!"

The next Mass Effect is being developed at BioWare Montreal which developed Mass Effect 3's co-op multiplayer mode. The original Mass Effect trilogy, including Mass Effect 3's single player, was produced by BioWare Edmonton which is currently working on Dragon Age: Inquisition and a new IP.

Next to nothing is known about the next Mass Effect other than the fact that it will be developed on the Frostbite 3 engine and the fact that Commander Shepard, the protagonist of the main games in the series to date, will not feature.

BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson has said the game will be "fresh and new". Neither a release window nor launch platforms have yet been announced.
