Armikrog steamrolls over funding and Wii U stretch goals to $ 974,758

June 27, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Ambitious project will benefit from full production budget

In the Kickstarter's twilight hours, Armikrog by Pencil Test Studios was able to reach its initial funding goal of $ 900,000 as well as its Wii U stretch goal of $ 950,000. It ended funding at $ 974,578. The DRM-free game will be coming to PC, Mac OS X, and Linux, using digital distribution platforms such as GOG, Humble Store, etc.

It will be animated exclusively using stop-motion animation and will be programmed on the Unity engine.

Comprised by many members of The Neverhood, Inc., including artists Doug TenNapel, Mike Dietz, Ed Schofield, and composer Terry S. Taylor, Pencil Test Studios is a group of animators at heart who sought out to bring a new IP in the style of The Neverhood for a new generation of gamers.

Joining this team is a core group of puppetmakers and animators, as well as a star studded list of voice talents. Actors will include Michael J. Nelson (MST3k, Rifftrax), Veronica Belmont (Tekzilla, Geek and Sundry), Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain) and Scott Kurtz (PvP).

Pencil Test has revealed the scantiest story details, of lead character Tommynaut and blind talking dog Beak-Beak crash landing on a strange planet and getting trapped in a prison called Armikrog.

Although they only did a stretch goal for Wii U, Pencil Test is also open to distributing via Steam and have put their game up on Steam Greenlight.

Armikrog is part of a growing list of gaming industry veterans signing up to make indie games for the Wii U. Read our feature on Christopher Seaver's next IP, Rusty Dog.
